Located at the MacArthur BART Station just off West MacArthur Boulevard, the 478-stall garage is a critical component of the first phase of a master-planned 7.76-acre development. MacArthur Station ultimately will provide a total of 624 new multifamily homes (including 108 below market rate) along with 42,500 square feet of commercial and retail space.
The garage was developed by MacArthur Transit Community Partners, LLC, an affiliate of BRIDGE Housing Corporation. BRIDGE, an award-winning nonprofit developer and manager of affordable housing, specializes in an array of revitalization, transit-oriented, urban-infill and mixed-use/mixed-income developments.
Financing for the garage was provided by the California Department of Housing and Community Development through the Prop 1C Transit Oriented Development and Infill Infrastructure Grant Programs; Oakland Redevelopment Successor Agency; and the California Pollution Control Financing Authority through the CALReUSE Program.
The public partner and land owner is the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART). The architect of record was International Parking Design, Inc., and the design architect was Lowney Architecture; the general contractor was Howard S. Wright, a Balfour Beatty Company.
Adjacent to the garage, construction is continuing on Mural, the first residential building on the site. When complete in spring 2015, Mural will include 90 rental apartments affordable to residents with annual incomes ranging from approximately $28,000 to $47,000 for a four-person household (30% to 50% of Area Median Income).
