At the grand opening of The Rivermark in West Sacramento last week, we were fortunate to hear from Marcia, a new resident of the property. Previously, she and her daughter had been living with family. Moving into The Rivermark gave them their own space for the first time in their lives.

“I work at a call center, and it means a lot to have rent I can afford,” said Marcia. “It’s not as stressful now, and it’s easier to manage our budget for things like food and clothes.”

We know that it is never enough to just provide housing. That’s why our community building activities--such as our recent backpack giveaway at San Francisco's Potrero public housing--are so critical.

More than 200 K-5th grade students received free backpacks, essential school supplies, books and back-to-school information. LeapFrog readers and tablets, generously donated by the Warriors Community Foundation, will support greater literacy and learning among the youngest public housing residents at Potrero.
